Written by Betsy LaBelle - In Dressage - Wednesday, October 8, 2014
This year, the Global Dressage Forum will take place at the world-renowned Blue Hors stud in Denmark, next week, October 20 and 21, 2014. Petersen represented Denmark for more than ten years during the 1990s through early 2000s, including at the Olympic Games, three World Equestrian Games, two World Cup Finals, and was awarded Danish National Champion five times.
Considered a master at dressage, Lars has trained a large number of horses from young horse to Grand Prix. With a talent for developing a horse into a world class Grand Prix competitor, Petersen has the ability to help each horse reach its full potential again and again in the show ring. A dedicated horseman, Petersen starts riding before dawn in order to get his training horses schooled before spending the rest of the day dedicated to his students. His passion and understanding for each horse is felt and seen around the farm. The horse always comes first.
Petersen will take three different horses at different training levels, from young horse to Grand Prix, and will educate the spectators on the journey in equine talent development.
Assisted by professional riders from Blue Hors, Petersen will share his basic philosophy on building confidence while training the horses up the levels.
With effective high performance, Lars achieved the position of #2 in the FEI World Rankings on Blue Hors Cavan. They went on to be the Reserve Champion at the 2002 World Cup final in 's-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands and competed at the 2002 World Equestrian Games in Jerez, Spain, where they finished 10th individually.
Lars moved to the United States in 2002 where he has earned an impressive record at some of the most prestigious shows in America. He operates Legacy Farms near Wellington, Florida with Grand Prix rider Melissa Taylor. Together they train a large barn full of top up-and-coming dressage horses.
In 2013 and 2014 Lars competed Marcia Pepper's Danish mare, Mariett to many wins at the CDI5* at the Global Dressage Festival, another CDI 4*and the Palm Beach Dressage Derby.
The list of speakers will include a number of international experts in their fields. Besides Lars Petersen many others include Fabienne Lütkemeier, Gina Capellmann and many more.
